When you go surfing or do other sports, the watch will automatically track your distance, pace, and other metrics. As for maintenance, since it has 200 - meter water resistance, you can wear it in the water without worry. But try to avoid hitting it hard against hard objects, as even though it's shock - resistant, a strong impact might still cause damage. The battery lasts about 2 years on CR2032.
